How do i solve 1/3 = ?/16?

    Let's called the number we're searching for x.

    We have 1/3=x/16. Multiply by 16 on both sides : x=16/3

    3 into 16 goes 5 and 1/3 this would give the answer 5.3333/16 to correct this multiply the top to make it a whole number but whatever you multiply the top by you must multiply the bottom by. So to make 5.333 into a whole number we must multiply by 3 to give 16. Now we must multiply the bottom number by the same amount. 3 multiplied by 16 = 48. Giving us the answer 16/48.
