The differene between two numbers is 12. eight times the larger number is 20 times the smaller number. write a system of equations describing the given condition. then solve the system by substitution method and find the two numbers.

    X - y = 12 ... x = 12 + y

    8x = 20y

    8 (12 + y) = 20y

    96 + 8y = 20y

    96 = 20y - 8y

    96 = 12y

    96/12 = y

    8 = y < = = = ur smaller number

    x - y = 12

    x - 8 = 12

    x = 12 + 8

    x = 20 < = = ur larger number
