    Nickels = n

    quarters = q

    nX. 05+qX. 25 = 4.65

    n is 3 greater than q

    n = q+3

    substitute n equal to 'q+3'

    (q+3) X. 05 + qX. 25 = 4.65

    .05q +.15 +.25q = 4.65

    .30q +.15 = 4.65

    .30q = 4.50

    q = 4.50/.30 = 15

    n = 15+3 = 18

    There are 18 nickels and 15 quarters
