    We can rewrite what x is in terms of y (since we know it from the first equation)

    I will substitute in the 2nd equation

    5 (3y-2) + 4y = 28

    15y - 10 + 4y = 28

    Combine like terms

    19y - 10 = 28

    Move the 10 over by adding it to both sides

    19y - 10 + 10 = 28 + 10

    19y = 38 now divide both sides by 19

    19y = 38

    19 19 and we get that y = 2

    Now substitute in either equation - i choose the first

    x = 3 (2) - 2 x = 6-2 = 4 so x = 4

    This works in the 2nd equation too. Try it.

    Final answer x = 4 y = 2
