You need to find a number which multiplies by itself to make 16:

    1 x 1 = 1

    2 x 2 = 4

    3 x 3 = 9

    4 x 4 = 16

So the answer is 4 since when it is multiplied by 4 it makes 16

This means that the square root of 16 is 4
