The slope of a line is - 1/3. Find the slope of a line that is perpendicular to this line.

    Perpendicular lines always have slopes which are negative reciprocals of each other. Mathematically:

    m1*m2=-1

    In this case:

    -1m/3=-1

    m=3

    So the slope of a perpendicular line to a line with a slope of - 1/3 is 3.
