    We can write the 2 numbers as a and b

    we have

    a-b = 9

    a+b=17

    we will solve the equations by adding them both and we get

    2a=26, therefore a = 26/2=13

    substitute in any equation and you will get 13 + ? = 17, so b = 4

    a=13, b = 4

    X-y=9

    x+y=17

    16+1

    15+2

    14+3 all these = 17 but which one has a difference of 9

    13+4 13-4=9

    12+5

    11+6

    so the two #s u r looking for are 13 & 4
