The perimeter of a rectangular garden is 114 meters. The length is 6 meters longer than twice the width. Find the dimensions of the garden.

    Width = x

    length = x + 6

    P = 2W + 2L = 114

    2x + 2 (x + 6) = 4x + 12 = 114

    4x = 114 - 12 = 102

    x = 102/4 = 25.5

    so W = 25.5

    L = 25.5 + 6 = 31.5

    Double check:

    P = 2W + 2L = 2 (25.5) + 2 (31.5) = 51 + 63 = 114
