The red team pulls the rope towards them with a speed of 1.5 meters per second. If the blue team is 4.5 meters away from being pulled across the line about how long will it take the red team to pull them across?

    Velocity is distance covered over a period of time. What is given in the problem is the velocity and the distance and now you need to solve for time.

    Start with the formula of velocity. Fill in what you know and solve for what you do not know. You know that the velocity is m/s and the distance that needs to be covered is 4.5 m.

    v = d/t

    1.5m/s = 4.5m/t

    The next step is to isolate time on one side of the equation. you can do this by transposing time to the other side of the equation.

    (1.5m/s) (t) = 4.5m We used multiplication because when you transpose you use the opposite operation

    Now to isolate time we need to transpose velocity as well and since it uses multiplication on one side, when you transfer it you use division.

    t = (4.5m) / 1.5m/s) All you need to do now is do the operation.

    t = 3s Meters will cancel out because you will divide and now you are left with seconds.

    It will take 3 seconds. The answer is then C.
