    The modulation used is pulse modulation.

    Remote control toys mostly are operated in infra red frequencies. The range of frequencies of the carrier wave is from 36 kHz to 46 kHz.

    The signal is in the form of data bits which is modulated with the carrier frequency of choice. The data is sent in the form of pulses. The duration of the pulse determines whether the receiver reads it as a 0 (OFF) or 1 (ON). This kind of modulation is called Pulse width modulation. (PWM)

    Amplitude and frequency modulation are used for continuous transmission of signals, such as music, video and data.

    For intermittent transmission, like that used in remote controls, pulse modulation is used.
