    In case of elastic collision, energy is conserved, Kinetic energy is conserved because there is neither leakage nor addition of energy in elastic collision. It is not necessary that one object should be at rest before collision. They maybe either moving in the same direction or opposite to each other or at some angle before collision. If both the objects have same masses, then their velocity will remain the same but if they have different masses then it won't. Thus, velocity may change. Objects never stick together in elastic collision. It sticks in case of inelastic collisions. Momentum is conserved unless net force acting on the closed system is zero.
