Why is the air at the top of a mountain hard to breathe compared to at sea level?

    Because the oxygen we breathe is 20%.

    The further away from sea level the pressure of the atmosphere decreases meaning there is in fact less air to breathe. so when you are on a mountain the further you go up the less oxygen there is for you to breathe.
