    Applying Hooke's law, F = k|deltax|, spring constant can be estimated using the given,

    k = (30 kg) (9. m/s) / 0.6

    k=490. Upon obtaining the value of the spring constant, the amount by which the 10kg mass would be compressed can be estimated using the same formula,

    F=k|deltax|

    (10) (9.8) / 490 = 0.2 m (option B)
