When measuring length it is important to use the appropriate tools and units to attain the greatest accuracy. For instance, it is common to use tape measures or meter when measuring normal objects or distance but for minute or small objects it would be more appropriate caliper. The nearest the graduation of the measuring tool to the object to be measured the greater the accuracy is. When measuring the length of a copper wire it would be useful to use tape measure or meter but when measuring the diameter of the copper wire it is more appropriate to use caliper since the dimension and graduation is much smaller compared to the length of the wire. Also for the said measurement, length of the wire can be reported in cm or m but the diameter of smaller dimension is usually in mm.
