Multimeter circuit are designed to measure 60 c/s or 400 c/s AC. It has quite large bypass capacitance to limit the input frequency response to avoid osillation. Most digital AC volt meter shall not give accurate reading more than 2000 c/s. That is why your ordinary AC multimeter does not response to higher frequency.
