Determine the coefficient of restitution e for a steel ball dropped from rest at a height h = 2.41 m above a heavy horizontal steel plate if the height of the second rebound is h2 = 0.82 m.

    For such cases where frictional forces can be neglected, and the object is dropped from rest onto a horizontal surface, coefficient of restitution is equivalent to:

    e = √ (h/H)

    where,

    h = bounce height

    H = drop height

    so, using the formula we get:

    e = √ (0.82/2.4)

    Hence, e = 0.583
