A simple pendulum is 5.00 m long. what is the period of small oscillations for this pendulum if it is located in an elevator (a) accelerating upward at 5.00 m/s2? (b) accelerating downward at 5.00 m/s2? (c) what is the period of this pendulum if it is placed in a truck that is accelerating horizontally at 5.00 m/s2

    Pendulum period in seconds T ≈ 2π√ (L/G) L is length of pendulum in meters G is gravitational acceleration = 9.8 m/s²

    So the answers are the following:

    a) use G = 9.8 + 5.0 = 14.8 m/s²b) use G = 9.8 - 5.0 = 4.8 m/s² c) 2π√ (L/G) = 2pi √5/9.8 = 4.49 m/s^2
