Answer: option D. Ask and answer questions.

    Explanation:

The core job of science is to ask and answer questions.

That is how science was born. Initially, this was done by the philosophers (the so called philosophers of the nature). They, nevertheless did not have the scientific method. They tried to figure out the answers through thinking, reasoning.

Nowadays, there is the scientific method which uses a sistematic inquiry and experimentation (research) to deal with the phenomena.

    Let's review each choice:

    A. Solve difficult equations

That is a specific job of mathematicians. Solving equations may be part of scientific work, but when the equations are too difficult they look to the mathematicians.

    B. Re-create previous results

Yes, previous results must be re-created as part of the scientific work, but this is not the part of inquiring. This is a method to validate previous research. The first scientist, the one who started the project, was who made the inquiry job.

    C. Prove they are correct

Scientist are looking for truth not trying to prove they are correct.

    D. Ask and answer questions

As said, this is what inquiry means for science. Finding good questions may not be as easy. Good questions lead to research, experimentation, hard word, to look for evidence that conducts to answers.
