    Explanation:

    Especially, cars are intended to crush and consume some of the collision. However, they cant crumple too enough or our legs will get crushed also, which is not good. Its all based on the postulate that the force of the collision is less if the entire deceleration takes place over a prolonged duration of time. The car crumpling tries to increase the deceleration time.
