How do stars go through fusion and why is hydrogen the element that goes through fusion?

    Stars have large amounts of hydrogen and its the lightest element and requires the least energy to fuse then it becomes helium then carbon and oxygen then sodium neon and magnesium then silicon sulfur and phosphorus and finally iron and nickel which are the heaviest elements that can be made via fusion
