Explain why people are hesitant to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is located in northern Alaska, and it sits well inside the Arctic Circle. Recent explorations showed that the region has several billion barrels of recoverable oil. It is a protected wildlife area, like the Grand Canyon or the Florida Everglades, so drilling will have negative impact on wildlife and forests in the region.
