Shwan pushes a cart in a supermarket with a force of 35 N directed at an angle of 25 downward from the horizontal. Find the work done by shwan on the cart as he moves along a 50.0 m length of aisle.

    The forces that act on the car in motion are shown in the figure. The force F has one component in the direction of the x-axis (Fx) and another in the direction of the y-axis (Fy). We must calculate the work (W) performed by the forces acting in the direction of the movement.

    Fx = F x Cos (25°)

    Fx = 35 N x Cos (25°)

    Fx = 31.72 N

    We must use the following formula:

    W = Fxd

    F = 35 N

    d = 50 m

    W = 31.72 N x 50 m

    W = 1586.04 Nxm

    W = 1586.04 J

    The work done by shwan on the cart as he moves along at 50.0 m length of aisle is 1586.04 J.
