A lithium atom has three electrons. a fluorine atom has nine protons and nine electrons, with seven electrons in its outer energy level. using a diagram of the two atoms, explain how lithium fluoride forms with ionic bonding between the lithium atom and the fluoride atom

    Lithium has 1 electron in its valence shell

    and fluorine hs 7 electrons in its valence shell.

    lithium wants to lose 1 electron to become constant.

    and fluorine would like to gain an electron to have 8 electrons in its valence shell

    so lithium can give it's extra electron to fluorine in ionic compounds
