    When the air blows from high pressure to an area of low pressure over the surface of the earth it is called wind. The greater the pressure difference more is the speed of the wind. The instrument used to measure the speed of the wind is called an anemometer. The winds are named after the direction from which they flow. Calm winds are the slowest of its kind whereas the gale-winds are the strongest winds.
