Water is pumped from a 200-ft-deep well into a 100-ft-high storage tank. Determine the power, in kW, that would be required to pump 310 gal/min. The density of water is taken to be 62.4 lbm/ft3.

    height raised, h = 200 + 100 = 300 ft

    Q = 310 gal / min = 310 / 60 = 5.17 gal/sec

    density of water, d = 62.4 lbm/ft^3 = 8.34 lbm/gal

    Power = h d g x Q

    P = h (dg) Q

    P = 300 x 8.34 x 5.17

    P = 12935.34 lbf - ft / s

    P = 23.52 hp
