Anna Litical is doing the It's All Uphill Lab. She applies a 13.8-Newton force parallel to the inclined plane in order to pull a cart up a hill inclined at an angle of 51.6 degrees. If she drags the cart a distance of 138 cm, then how much work (in Joules) does she do upon the cart?

    The work (in Joules) is equal to 33.32.

    Explanation:

    F force can be considered here as a weight. Unit Joules is another name of Newton-meter that's why it is important to convert the given unit of distance from centimeters to meters.

    Formula for work is W = f*sin (theta) * d

    where,

    f = force in Newton

    d = distance in meters = (138-cm/100) = 1.38-meters

    so we can get

    W = 13.8*sin (51.6) * (1.38)

    W = 33.32-Joules
