Democritus important with regard to atomic theory because he laid the foundation stone for atoms.

    Explanation:

Democritus was the first one to state about the existence of atoms. He stated that atoms compose each and everything existing in the universe. According to Democritus, atom is physically indivisible particles but can be divisible geometrically.

He also stated that empty space appears between atoms and that atoms can occur in different size and shapes. Even the number of atoms required to compose any element will vary has also been stated by him. So all these formed the basis of atomic theory.
