Football coaches advise players to block, hit, and tackle with their feet on the ground rather than by leaping through the air. Using the concepts of momentum, work, and energy, explain how a football player can be more effective with his feet on the ground.

    Answer: momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body and it can be measured as a product of the mass and velocity of the body in motion.

    Energy is simply the ability to do work.

    Work is the force required to move a body a certain distance.

    Combining the three quantities defined above a player who has just leaped into the air has lost some of his energy by jumping and, therefore has also momentum has been lost by the footballer pushing off from the ground. Therefore it is advisable for footballers to remain on their feet in the game.
