An electromagnetic wave is traveling through free space. The amplitudes of the wave's electric and magnetic fields are E 0 E0 and B 0 B0, respectively. The wave then passes through a filter that reduces the amplitude of the electric field by half (E 0 / 2) (E0/2). What is the amplitude of the magnetic field after the wave passes through the filter?

    B = Bo / 2

    Explanation:

    Magnesium and electric fields are related in an electromagnetic wave

    E / B = c

    If the electric field is halved the magnetic field must also be halved to meet the written equation

    B = Bo / 2

    B = Bo/2

    Explanation:

    Bo depends on Eo as stated by the relation

    Bo = Eo/c

    Where

    Bo = magnetic field amplitude

    Eo = Electric field amplitude

    c = Speed of light in vacuum = constant

    Since c is constant whatever happens to the electric field amplitude will also affect the magnetic field amplitude. In the same vein if the electric field amplitude is halfed, the magnetic field amplitude will also be halfed. Hence

    (Bo) new = Bo/2
