Oxygen-18 is a naturally-occuring, stable isotope and is commonly used is scientific studies as a tracer. Using the periodic table, predict the number of electrons, neutrons, and protons in oxygen-18.

    2. Electron number = 8

    3. Neutron = 10

    Mass number = 18

    Proton = 8 (isotope still retain their atomic number)

    Electron = proton = 8 (since it is a neutral atom)

    Neutron = Mass number - proton

    Neutron number = 18 - 8 = 10
