    P = IV

    Ohms law gives voltage as the product of current and resistance i. e.

    V = IR

    Replacing this in the previous equation gives

    P = I (IR) = I^2R

    Explanation:

    applying ohms law V=IR

    Power is the product of current and voltage:

    P = IV

    And from Ohm's law, voltage is the product of current and resistance:

    V = IR

    So substituting this expression for V into the power equation:

    P = I (IR)

    P = I² R
