A ball with a mass of 275 g is dropped from rest, hits the floor and rebounds upward. If the ball hits the floor with a speed of 3.10 m/s and rebounds with a speed of 1.90 m/s, determine the following.     mass of ball, m = 275 g = 0.275 kg

    u = - 3.10 m/s

    v = 1.90 m/s

    (a) Magnitude of change in momentum

    Δp = m (v - u)

    Δp = 0.275 (1.90 - ( - 3.10))

    Δp = 0.275 x 5 = 1.375 Ns

    (b) change in magnitude of ball momentum,

    ΔP = ║mv║ - ║mu║

    ΔP = ║0.275 x 1.90║ - ║0.275 x ( - 3.10) ║

    ΔP = 0.5225 - 0.8525

    ΔP = - 0.33 kgm/s

    (c) According to the newton's second law the rate of change of momentum is the force. So, the magnitude of rate of change of momentum is the force so part A is correct.
