7. Define Efficiency in words. How efficient are cars compared to bicycles, why do you think bicycles are more

efficient? (Hint: Explain using the wasted energy in each case)

    Efficiency is related to energy loss. In a reaction, energy is lost. However, the degree to which energy is lost becomes the basis for energy efficiency. Now, in relation to bicycles and cars, bikes are more efficient because they can transfer mechanical energy much more efficiently than cars. Cars have to use an engine, a transmission, a differential, and tires to be able to move. Bycicles use a chain mechanism that uses less parts and transfers torque more efficiently.

    But that depends on the use of a bike. If you want to travel far distances, cars become much more efficient. Let's say you want to travel even larger distances like national travel, then planes become more efficient.

    Efficiency is a measure of energy loss, but it also takes in consideration what we are planning to do with that energy in the first place.
