    The energy of the system isn't conserved because the whole system has other forces involved on it, in the ideal case with no friction or resistance the mechanical energy should be conerved and should always add up to the initial potential energy of the system, since this is not the case of a closed sytem and there is friction we could say that mechanical energy is lost to frictio and it isnñt conserved.
