Four objects are situated along the y axis as follows: a 2.00-kg object is at 13.00 m, a 3.00-kg object is at 12.50 m, a 2.50-kg object is at the origin, and a 4.00-kg object is at 20.500 m. Where is the center of mass of these objects?

center of mass is at 12.65 m

    Explanation:

    mass 1 = 2 kg

    distance 1 = 13.00 m

    mass 2 = 3 kg

    distance 2 = 12.50 m

    mass 3 = 2.5 kg

    distance 3 = 0 m

    mass 4 = 4 kg

    distance 3 = 20.500 m

    to find out

    center of mass

    solution

we know the center of mass formula i. e

    center of mass = (mass 1 * distance 1 + mass 2 * distance 2 + mass 3 * distance 3 + mass 4 * distance 4) / (mass 1 + mass 2 + mass 3 + mass 4)

    center of mass = 4 * 20.5 + 2.5 * 0 + 2 * 13 + 3 * 12.5 / 2 + 3 + 2.5 + 4

    center of mass = 12.65

so from origin, center of mass is at 12.65 m
