The scientific definition of energy related to work is that energy is the capacity to do work.

    Explanation:

Energy is defined as the work done on or by an object on another object.

The energy is divided as potential energy and kinetic energy.

Potential energy, the energy of the object at rest whereas kinetic energy, the energy of object at motion or the energy required to do any kind work.

Based on the external force applied to create an energy as energy can neither be created nor be destroyed, the energy is classified as mechanical energy where mechanical force does the work, chemical energy where chemical reactions perform the work etc.
