    C. In the absence of an unbalanced force, an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion.

    Explanation:

According to Newton's first law of motion, It states that an object at rest will continue to be at rest or an object in motion will continue to be in motion with a constant velocity unless acted upon by a net external force or an unbalanced force. The law gives the idea that a body will only change it state at rest or constant motion if the overall force becomes unbalanced.

According to Newton law there must be an unbalance force to change the motion of an object or the rest state of that object. For example Sliding and object on the floor, the unbalanced force that alter the velocity or motion of that object is the frictional force. The frictional force is the force between the object and the floor. This frictional force slows down the intended motion of the object due to unbalance force between the frictional force and the force that caused the motion of the object.

Newton law is also known as the law of inertia. Inertia talks about the mass a body possess and it gives information on how easy or hard a body of mass is willing to accelerate. Usually heavy object have lower accelerating potential. Heavy objects requires more force to cause the object to accelerate.
