    field of view

    3mm = 3x10^-3m

    1 micron = 10^-6m

    so there are 3x10^-3/10^-6 microns in 3mm

    =3000microns

    for the area, pi D^2 = > 3X2999^^2 sq microns = > 27000 sq microns
