In order to lift the crate, the forklift had to apply force that was greater than force of gravity affecting the crate.

    There are two forces acting on the crate. the upward force which is the tension force and the downward force which the force of gravity. a forklift is to lift the crate upwards. This means that the tension force from the forklift must be greater than the force of gravity else the force of gravity will resist it from moving upward
