    Answer: The data for the second part of the experiment support the second hypothesis. As the mass of the cylinder increased, the temperature of the water increased. With a greater mass, the cylinder has more gravitational potential energy. This gravitational potential energy was completely converted to thermal energy, which increased the temperature of the water.
