Can a reaction force ever be greater or less than an applied force? Explain.

    Answer: Yes. Normal reaction in upward direction. Now when you apply a horizontal force to move it, there are 2 possible cases.

    Explanation:Force applied is greater than the maximum frictional force offered by the surface. In this case body will move in the direction of force applied.
