    Gravitational potential energy is the potential an object has to do work as a result of being located at a particular position in a gravitational field. It can be calculated by using the following equation:

    G. P. E=mxgxh where G. P. E is gravitational potential energy in joules, m is the mass of object in kilograms, g is gravitational field strength in Newton's per kilogram and h is height in metres.
