Robert A. Sutton was the first scientist to explore the fossilized leaves and stems of plants that are deposited in the rocks of Antarctica.

Ernest Shackleton was the scientist who first discovered the coal beds near the South pole region (Antarctica) in the year 1908.

These fossilized samples and coal samples are not collected from these region because of the presence of vast ice sheets, and also this are the places where carrying out the drilling process is also very risky.

Numerous expeditions have been made to Antarctica and large amounts of data has been collected from this region of earth.
