Absolute pressure is the actual existing pressure, independent of the environment, while gauge pressure is the pressure relative to the exterior environment, which is usually the atmosphere (with a pressure of 1 atm). Convert an absolute pressure of 7.05 * 105 N/m2 to gauge pressure, in pounds per square inch.

gauge pressure = absolute pressure - atmospheric pressure

    = 7.05 x 10⁵ - 1.01 x 10⁵

    = 6.04 x 10⁵ N / m²

To convert it into pounds per square inch, we shall apply conversion formula

    1 pound per square inch (psi) =.06895 x 10⁵ N / m²

    6.04 x 10⁵ N / m²

    = 6.04 /.06895 psi

    = 87.6 psi.
