Restriction enzymes are used in DNA profiling because they cleave DNA molecules at or near a specific sequence of bases that are called restriction sites. Gel electrophoresis is a method of separating DNA and RNA and proteins based on molecular sizes. It works by pushing the molecules with an electric field through a gel that has pores that separates them.
