An 1800kg car is traveling on an elevated roadway 5.0 meters above the ground. If the car is moving at 20 m/s, what is the total mechanical energy of the system?

    We know that:

    EM=Ek+Epg

    SO:

    Ek=1/2mv²

    Ek=1/2 (1800kg) (20m/s) ²

    Ek=360000J

    Now:

    Epg=mgh

    Epg = (1800kg) (9,81m/s²) (5m)

    Epg=88290J

    We sum:

    EM=360000J+88290J

    EM=448290J
