    Fnet = mass * acceleration

    Fpush (force by the boys) - 40 = (30) (1.5)

    Fpush - 40 = 45

    Fpush = 45 + 40

    Fpush = 85 N

    So, the boys are exerting a force of 85 N on the bicycle.
