Elements are classified according to the number of protons they contain.

carbon has 6 protons and 6 electrons and 6 neutrons.

copper has 29 electrons, 29 electrons and 34 neutrons.

an element is a " kind " of atom. There are over hundreds of them.

anyways they are are elements because they are all made up of the same type of atoms!

    goodluck!
