A compact car a maximum acceleration of 3.0 m/s^2 when it carries only the driver and has a total mass of 1300 kg.

What is the maximum acceleration after picking up their luggage, adding an additional 400 kg of mass?

    Maximum force the car can create = mass * maximum acceleration

    mass = 1300 kg, maximum acceleration = 3 m/s²

    maximum force = 1300*3 = 3,900 N

    New mass after addition of luggage = 1300+400 = 1700 kg

    acceleration = maximum force/mass = 3900/1700 = 2.29 m/s²
