Static electricity is the build up of electrical charges on the surface of some object or material. Static electricity is usually created when materials are pulled apart or rubbed together causing positive (+) charges to collect one material and negative (-) charges on the other surface. It is called static because the charges remain in one area for a while rather than moving or flowing to another area. Results from static electricity may be sparks, shock or materials clinging together.
